The dollar has climbed in forex trading markets today (September 5th), ahead of the release of the ADP employment report.
This is expected to show that US private employers added 182,000 new jobs in August, down from 200,000 in the previous month.
Seen as a precursor to the non-farm payrolls (NFP) report, which is set to be released tomorrow, the ADP employment report differs slightly from the NFP figure as it does not include data from those in public sector roles.
The Federal Reserve is expected to begin scaling back its quantitative easing programme later this month, but the central bank's chairman Ben Bernanke has repeatedly stated that this will be dependent on strength in the US labour market.
Overnight, the Bank of Japan pledged to continue its radical monetary stimulus policy and this has caused the country’s currency to weaken above the technically-important 100 yen to the dollar level.
As of 09:10 BST, the greenback was trading at 100.10 yen - 0.36 per cent higher for the session.
